Reese Alston committed to LSU on Thursday. He is the Tigers' third known pledge in the 2027 class, joining King Gibson and Ahmad Hudson. Alston is listed as a point guard, Gibson as a combo guard. That gives Will Wade two highly rated guards in a class still more than a year from campus.
Alston is No. 13 in SCNext's 2027 ranking and No. 9 on 247Sports' list, according to CBS Sports. He chose LSU over Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee and Wichita State. Two guard commitments give Wade options as he assembles a future roster, with their college assignments still far away.
What changed since Gibson's decision
When Gibson committed in early October, LSU had one guard pledge and Hudson's stated interest in playing two sports. Alston adds a player specifically listed at point guard. That gives the future class a clearer backcourt shape while Gibson continues his own development as a combo guard.
Hudson remains part of the recruiting picture, with football also in his plans. CBS Sports identifies all three as LSU's current class members. Alston's addition changes the commitment count and adds a second guard. Wade's eventual 2027-28 roster will determine how the pieces fit.
CBR's Alston profile holds earlier scouting notes and a dated CBR board placement. His decision status is now LSU. Their final school seasons will offer a better comparison of how Alston and Gibson might complement each other.
