LSU adds King Gibson to its 2027 recruiting class

King Gibson has committed to LSU, he told ESPN on Sunday. He chose the Tigers over Arkansas, Louisville and Providence. For Will Wade's program, the immediate change is in the 2027 class: Gibson gives LSU a highly rated guard alongside forward Ahmad Hudson, who has said he wants to play football and basketball in Baton Rouge.

ESPN places Gibson at No. 13 in its 2027 SC Next 100 and No. 2 among shooting guards. The outlet reported 16.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game across 15 games with Team United last spring and summer, including 39.4 percent shooting from three. Those numbers describe a productive club sample. They do not tell us what job he will have on a college team more than a year away.

What the second pledge means

ESPN calls Gibson LSU's second 2027 commitment and lists Hudson at No. 20 in its class ranking. That is a serious start in two different parts of the floor. Gibson supplies a guard commitment. Hudson is a forward whose plans involve two sports. Tiger Rag reported in May that Hudson personally expressed interest in joining the basketball program as well as LSU football. The report also explained that his football commitment should not be mistaken for a signed basketball roster place.

That distinction matters when assessing the class. LSU can now recruit around a guard with a measured scoring and passing record. It also has Hudson's stated two-sport intent. Neither pledge establishes how often the two will share a basketball court in 2027-28, or which current players will still be in Wade's rotation then. An early class ranking would have to live with those open questions.

Wade returned as LSU coach in March. Gibson's announcement is a concrete recruiting result from that return. The next useful evidence is Gibson's senior season at SPIRE Academy, Hudson's final basketball plans and the rest of LSU's 2027 commitments. CBR's Gibson profile now records the LSU decision while retaining its earlier scouting notes as dated context.
