NaVorro Bowman Jr. committed to UConn on September 10, ESPN reported.
The guard attends Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California. USA Basketball lists him at 6-foot-3. He gives Dan Hurley a player who has already had to produce with a national team full of other scoring options.
What the international numbers show
Bowman's FIBA U17 World Cup record shows 11.9 points and 3.6 assists per game across seven appearances. He made 33 of 46 two-point attempts and four of 16 threes.
That is a promising interior scoring sample and a small perimeter sample. Sixteen attempts cannot settle what kind of college shooter Bowman will become. The passing deserves attention alongside the scoring, with 25 assists and 12 turnovers in the tournament.
Those totals give UConn two concrete questions to follow during his senior season. Can he keep finding efficient shots inside the arc against different defenses? And can he keep creating for teammates when opponents spend more of their attention on him? The tournament provides a starting point for those questions, with college performance still ahead.
The commitment changes the next visits
David Borges of CT Post reported that UConn hosted Bowman over Labor Day weekend. Borges also cited Rivals reporting that the Huskies would no longer host official visits from guards Cayden Daughtry and Micah Gordon after Bowman's decision.
That reported change is a practical consequence of landing a guard early. A staff can narrow the roles it is recruiting and spend more attention on players who would complement the commitment. It still needs the rest of the class, and a September pledge does not establish a future starting lineup.
